Sit back and RELAX

I hope everyone is having a relaxing day! I'm trying but it's not working so well. Oh the life with a 3 almost 4 year old. =)
Anywho, I've been wanting to try one of those painted signs for a while now. Seriously how hard could it be? SUPER simple!
You need a piece of wood, some kind of lettering and just a little bit of paint. That's it!

Seriously any kind of wood will do. This was an old cutting board of my Grandpa-in-law's (is that a word?)

I cut out my letters using my die cutting machine, but you could use self-adhesive vinyl too.

Just lay the letters on the wood with just a little bit of glue. I used a tape runner so that there wouldn't be any leftover residue. It really is as simple as painting over the whole thing. You can put on as much or as little as you want. Depends what kind of look you're going for.
Slowly peel of the letters and there you go!

I used a sanding block to rub off some of the paint on the edges and over the letters.
Voila! So cute and simple. This is going to be part of my summer decoration after the 4th of July is over.

Have a "relaxing" rest of the day! =)

A little bit of chicken wire

Whew! That was a looooong weekend! I had a garage sale this last Friday and Saturday and I am still feeling the lack of sleep from it. Made a nice chunk of change from it though so it may have been worth it. =)

On to the next project.

Since we're going to be moving soon, we decided not to go ahead with our garden plans. Since that happened, we have all the chicken wire leftover that we usually use around the garden. I was dying to find something that I could use it for. If you read blogs very often you've probably seen this idea EVERYWHERE. So I gave it a try. SO EASY!

Here's your supply list:
  1. Staple gun
  2. Wire cutters
  3. Frame (preferably wood)
  4.  Chicken wire
  5. Leftover paints
It really is as simple as cutting out the wire and stapling it onto the back of the frame. After I did that i went around the outside of the frame and curled in any jagged edges of the wire.
I used a cream color leftover from who-knows-what and then just dry brushed on some blue from our son's room. Then using a sanding block, distressed it all down until I liked it.
And there you have it. Use any kind of clips to attach whatever you want. Memos, recipes, pictures, you name it!
Hope you had a fantastic weekend! What did you work on?

Wallpaper Pictures

Hello Everyone! Hope you all are having a great week, and TGIF! Whoo-hoo =)

I've been getting kind of antsy with my son's room. It's still decorated as his "baby room". Not that his baby room was very babyish. The theme is construction so it's still pretty "big boyish" =)  BUT I've been wanting to redo it for a while now. The problem: we're going to be moving in a couple of months. So I don't want to spend time and money on changing things that we can't take with us. I've been trying to find things to decorate that are easily removable so that they will work in our new house. About a month ago my aunt gave me a couple packages of vehicles that are wallpaper.
They are super cute and I wanted to use them without having them be permanently stuck to the wall. I rummaged through my box of frames. (Yes I have a box of old frames. Yes I know I am addicted ;) )
I spray painted a handful of them black and got to work.
I just used stick glue to glue them to white cardstock and put them in the frames. Then I laid them all out on our table so I could get a vision of how I wanted to hang them.
And there you go. So easy right?
Bear found his own use for these vehicles:
=) Hope you have a great weekend!

Thee mirror

First and foremost I want to say a big "Happy Memorial Day!" to everyone out there. May God keep the lives of our soldiers safe and God bless all soldiers past, present and future. Please pray for our soldiers at home and abroad.

Remember this lovely Dresser?
Well I told you I was going to do something with the mirror too. I know it's kind of hard to see in this pic but it was basically just a plain mirror with a piece of plywood behind it. Sooooo I glued the mirror to the plywood (after detaching it from the dresser) with a mirror adhesive.

Very important to let this dry completely and on a flat surface.
Then I found some molding for a steal at Menard's that was pre-primed and 8ft long. I used a
Miter box with saw to miter the corners.

Now I know it should go without saying that if your molding has any kind of design at all on it to pay attention to how you are sawing so that the pattern matches up. I may or may not have wasted a bit of wood because I was not paying attention =)

I used the same mirror adhesive to attach the molding to the mirror. If you have clamps now would be a good time to use them. I do not. Therefore I used heavy objects on top praying it would work just as good.
After a couple of days in my garage (I'm sure it sets faster, but I wanted to be absolutely sure) I brought out the HEAVY mirror to caulk the corners. Let me just say this : Caulk is your friend. It will hide a multitude of sins.
Here's the finished product!
(cat not included =) )

As you can see there is a gap from all the layers being glued together. I'm going to try and find a thin piece of trim to finish it off but just haven't got to it yet. Doh! Oh well anyways... what do you think? This thing is HU-U-UGE! So I'm kind of scared to hang it on the wall. I just leaned in against it for now until I find a better solution.  P.S That dresser that its on...yeah that pretty white one...$3. At a garage sale! I didn't even do anything to it! Score!! =)

My door and flowers are numbered

In our front yard we made a bed last year. Since we didn't have a lot of money for flowers, we decided to just put a layer of rock down that way in the future if we wanted we could easily still plant bushes. So my solution to dress it up was to use 3 shepherd's hooks and just have hanging baskets. I have many containers from over the years but wouldn't you know it NONE of them were the same color. Bring on the spray paint!

I decided to go red since it matches nicely with the color of our house.
Why not spray a number on just to add some detail?
I was going to use our street address since this is the front of our house, but decided it might be a little overkill since our door has this on it.
The numbers on the door are just adhesive backed vinyl I cut with my die-cutter. The flower is from Hobby Lobby. I think I got it about 5 years ago. For the baskets I used the die-cutter to make a stencil and then spray painted it on with white. Here's another look.

Some "new" things

How many of you have seen this TV tray before?
If they're not in your house then they are sure to be in your Grandparent's. I needed something bigger to put on our new dresser. So I decided to go ahead and paint the tray to try something new. I also had an old Christmas candlestick to paint.

We actually had a day here that was neither rainy or windy so I got right to work. (You never know when Nebraska weather is going to change =) )
Primed and painted them both white. The tray I used a stencil to add a spray painted monogram and some rub on brackets.

Love how it turned out. I just need something
to put on the glass tray....
